Thirty-two dinners. One winner.
Dinner Derby
Every meal races as a marble down the same course. Six ways to run it, and whichever
you pick, whoever is still standing at the end is dinner. Nobody plays. Everybody
watches.
Battle Royale
1 race · about 7 minutes
All thirty-two start together over five laps. Every time the leader gets round,
the back of the field is lifted off the course. The last seven race it out to
the line.
Elimination Ladder
4 races · about 10 minutes
The field halves every race. Thirty-two, then sixteen, then eight, then a final
of four over two laps. Finish well and you drop first next round.
King of the Hill
5 races · about 11 minutes
Eight open it. The winner takes the hill and the runner-up comes back with
them, then six fresh challengers come at them both. The king drops three seconds
clear of the field, and further ahead with every defence.
Grand Prix
5 races · about 11 minutes
A season. All thirty-two every round, points to the top ten, and the most points
is dinner. Nobody is ever knocked out.
Time Trial
3 races · about 16 minutes
Everybody on the course at once, ranked on the fastest single lap rather than on
who crossed first. Then a staggered final.
The Cup
13 races · about 25 minutes
Eight groups of four, then four quarter-finals, and everybody who survives them
meets in one grand final of eight over three laps. The long one.
